Stainless Steel Tubing over Long Lengths

There are many factors to take into account when running long lengths of high pressure stainless steel tubing, especially larger diameters (1/2” to 1”).  The conventional method is to weld 20 foot lengths of ‘stick’ tube together.  With proper installation, mechanical fittings can provide a leak free connection. When done properly however, a weld is [...]

The Skinny on Instrumentation Capillary Tube

Capillaries are essential components for instrument tubing because of the accuracy and reliability needed to allow for consistent results.  Capillary tubes are typically 1/16” OD or smaller.  They are used by OEMs that make instrumentation devices such as pressure, level, flow or temperature transmitters.  Though some capillary applications are as large 1/8th OD, most are [...]

How Ultra-Small Diameter Tubing is Helping the Chromatography Industry

Chromatography is a system of separating the components of a mixture by differential movement through a two-phase method, where relative amounts of each solute are first distributed between a moving fluid stream, and then they enter a contiguous stationary phase. The quality of capillary tubing used affects the efficiency of the flow. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a technique in which components of a mixture are separated to recognize and to quantify each element in the mixture. HPLC utilizes pumps to pass a pressurized liquid solvent containing the sample through a column. The column is filled with a solid adsorbent material. Based on the way the adsorbent material reacts to the different components, there are different flow rates, which cause separation as they flow through the column. HandyTube’s capillary tubing with Chromat I.D. has been designed to increase measurement speed and accuracy without sacrificing quality. The smooth-bore offered on capillaries limits Newtonian flow through the sample loop, resulting in a better sample read. Careful quality control during tubing manufacturing, both in-process and at final inspection, are essential for accuracy of size, soundness of material and a uniform inner surface. Flow rates are key to identifying different elements in a solution, so surface finish is a crucial component of quality tubing for HPLC equipment. Known as the “wall effect,” particles move faster through the center of the flow path than those against the wall. A highly polished interior surface of the tubing can increase efficiency and reduce this effect. Product cleanliness is critical in this industry. Impurities, such as oil, grease and other foreign material leftover from the manufacturing process can result in cross-contamination and inaccurate sample readings, or even component failure. Conventional tubing typically requires additional cleaning on-site, prior to installation. Chroma Clean ID™ is a superior cleaning process for ultra-small diameter tubing that removes contaminants that standard cleaning processes leave behind. Filter after typical cleaning process Filter after Cleaning with Chroma Clean process Ultra-Small Diameter tubing holds tight dimensional controls and is engineered with an outer diameter less than 0.0625”. Close tolerances are held on the outer and inner diameters for more accurate measurements and a better seal when using ferrules. As Ultra-Small Diameter Tubing continues to evolve, it will be an important scientific component in analyzing solutions for the medical, legal, research and manufacturing fields. […]

Why High-Pressure Tubing is Essential for HPLC

Chromatography is the science of separating components within a mixture into their constituent elements then measuring and analyzing these elements. “High-performance liquid chromatography” (HPLC) equipment can assist in finding water pollution, toxic chemicals, and airborne impurities.  Long lengths of small diameter stainless steel capillary tubing is used to plumb many high-precision systems to increase sampling efficiencies. […]

Compressed Natural Gas – In the News

HandyTube’s interview with 21st Century Business was featured on FOX Business, CNBC and Bloomsburg TV in March of last year, showcasing its new CNG Plus™ Tubing products. And it is still “breaking news” to most of the CNG market. HandyTube™ Corporation has partnered with SSP, an American-made fittings manufacturer, to develop a unique solution exclusively for CNG stations. Unlike other tubing, truly seamless CNG Plus™ Tubing is designed to withstand extreme pressures associated with transporting compressed natural gas over long distances. In addition, it’s manufactured with Restricted Tolerance Controls to optimize the tubing for use with compression tube fittings. CNG Plus™ Tubing, made from stainless steel, is seamless and shipped in continuous long-length coils. This eliminates the need for welding pipe together and saves on labor cost. The unique partnership has allowed additional services such as initial inspection and plan review, bill-of-materials development and delivery of all job materials on site. The end goal:  A faster and safer way to build CNG fueling stations. In the video segment HandyTube President John Coates talks about his company’s dedication to providing exceptional customer solutions instead of just tubing. With constant innovation and an aggressive approach to meeting customer needs, Coates is optimistic about the future role his company will play in the construction of CNG infrastructure. According to Coates, HandyTube engineers are constantly working to come up with new and better methods to serve the needs of their customers. Click to learn more about CNG Plus™ Tubing!
