HandyTube’s new 6Mo alloy resists corrosion in caustic environments

Camden, Delaware (USA)—HandyTube’s newest alloy, UNS S31254 (6Mo), offers superior resistance to corrosion in high-chloride environments, such as salt water, seawater, pulp mill bleach plants and other high-chloride process streams. Used in HandyTube’s seamless, weld-free tubing, this alloy exhibits high resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking in harsh environments.  6Mo is ideal for offshore oil and gas, chemical processing, instrumentation and shipbuilding applications.

With high levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen, 6Mo offers 50 percent more strength than 300-series austenitic stainless steels. HandyTube’s seamless 6Mo tubing is a good alternative for 316/316L tubing that is being replaced more often due to corrosion. This alloy, with its enhanced chemistry, offers excellent workability and weld-ability.  6Mo tubing can be provided in long-length coils, reducing the labor and material costs associated with joining shorter lengths.

HandyTube’s 6Mo tubing, in 0.236″ to 1.000″ outer diameters, meets NORSOK qualifications and is ideal for applications such as:

  • Seawater handling equipment
  • Pulp mill bleach systems
  • Tall oil distillation columns and equipment
  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Food processing equipment
  • Flue gas desulfurization scrubbers
  • Oil and gas production equipment

NORSOK is a set of standards developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, added value and cost effectiveness for development and operations in this industry and are intended to supersede oil company specifications and to serve as authorities’ regulatory references. HandyTube’s 6Mo tubing has received qualification according to NORSOK M650, Edition 4, and M630, Edition 6, certification.
